New Cadet Information

Monthly Meeting Schedule 

  • 1st Tuesdays – promotion night; any promotions or awards cadets receive will be recognized on these nights 

  • 2nd Tuesdays – Aerospace education; we will cover topics relating to the aerospace curriculum 

  • 3rd Tuesdays – Emergency Services and Leadership; basic survival and leadership skills will be covered on these nights 

  • 4th Tuesdays – Physical fitness 

  • 5th Tuesdays – CAP Fun night; anything from movie night w/ guest speakers to a ropes course, the idea is the be fun and engaging while still covering something related to the cadet program 

Cadet’s Suggested Weekly Schedule 

  • Monday – prepare your uniform, shine your boots 

  • Tuesday – attend the squadron meeting; remember to SIGN IN! 

  • Thursday – read reCAP Newsletter and sign up for additional activities announced within it 

  • By 9pm on Sunday – read your flight call-outs; email your flight staff with any questions  

NOTE: If you need to email a senior member, make sure to CC another person (your parents, another senior member, or your flight staff) on your email. 

ABU Uniform 

General Information: 

  • Vanguard: the only official place to purchase uniform items online 

Getting Your ABU Checklist: 

  • Buy Patches and T-shirt; 2 “Civil Air Patrol” tapes, 2 name tapes, 2 NC Wing patches, and 2 T-shirts 

  • Buy Black 8” Combat Boots; some suggestions 

  • A local military surplus store 

  • Buy Boot Shining Kit; suggestions 

  • Buy Block Boot Socks (2 Pairs); recommend thick wool socks, some suggestions 

  • Squadron Supply; once you have the above items present them to the squadron supply officer so your ABU uniform and squadron patch will be issued 

  • Sometimes we do not have your size, the supply officer will tell you if you need to purchase your ABUs directly from Vanguard 

  • Tailor Uniform; take ABU shirt plus patches to a tailor, see instructions below, suggested tailors 

  • "Lee's Tailor" - several locations in the RDU area search google maps for closest location 

  • Shine Boots; per regulation your boots must be shined see Tutorial 

  • Grooming Standards; to wear the ABU you must meet grooming standards 

  • Get a haircut, shave (males, if necessary), get your long hair properly secured (females); If you have questions or are unsure check CAPR 39-1 or ask your flight sergeant 

  • Bring complete ABU to first meeting; bring your ABU to the first meeting in which you intend to wear it and have your flight sergeant review it for correctness, then you can change into your ABUs 

  • Additional Items; As part of your standard uniform some additional items will be required 

  • A closed top water container, preferrable w/ D-ring attachment 

  • A notepad, of small enough size that it can be stored in the cargo pocket of the ABU pant 

  • A writing implement 

 

ABU TAPES AND PATCHES PLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Name Tape - Rests on, but not over the right breast pocket, centered on the pocket. Do not cut the excess fabric but fold it under to prevent fraying. 

  • Civil Air Patrol Tape - Rests on, but not over the left breast pocket, centered on the pocket. Do not cut the excess fabric but fold it under to prevent fraying. 

  • NC Wing Patch - Placed on the left sleeve ½ inch below the shoulder seam and centered on the shoulder seam. 

  • Squadron Patch - Centered on the lower portion of the right breast pocket (not covering the flap).
